About Friðgeir Helgason

Friðgeir Helgason lived and worked as a chef in New Orleans from 1990 to 2004 before moving to Los Angeles where he currently studies photography.  Helgason returns to the 'greatest city on earth,' his New Orleans, every 6 months to visit family and friends.

Friðgeir Helgason was born on the island of Vestmannaeyjar  in Iceland. When he was 6 years old, he and his family were evacuated to escape a volcanic eruption. Within 2 years, 1.5 million tons of ash had been removed, and most of the community rebuilt.

It saddens him that New Orleans is still struggling to dig out from Hurricane Katrina.
